Consultancy

Independent design, modelling and grid applications.

The engineering behind our installs, available on its own. Drone surveys and 3D models, energy and battery feasibility studies, and DNO applications for new supplies and generation, on a fixed fee.

What we do

Three services, one team of engineers.

  • Panel colour = annual shading
  • clear
  • some shade
  • heavy shade
A real design on a real drone survey: 22 panels on a Swindon home, placed on the 3D model of the roof. Drag to look around, scroll to zoom. Each panel is coloured by how much of the year it sits in shade, straight from the shading simulation we run on every design.

3D drone modelling

A survey you can design from.

We fly the roof or site with a drone, build a measured 3D model and simulate shading hour by hour through the year. You get the panel layout, the yield estimate and the model itself, whether we install or someone else does.

  • Photogrammetry survey of roofs, land and car parks
  • Measured 3D model with pitch, orientation and obstructions
  • Hour-by-hour shading simulation and annual yield
  • Panel layouts and structural notes for tender or planning

  • Solar generation
  • What the house uses
  • Still imported from the grid
A real study: 10.56 kWp of panels and a 13.5 kWh battery on a Swindon home that uses 5,000 kWh a year. Bars are what the roof generates each month against what the house uses; the orange slice is what still came from the grid once the battery had done its work. Over the year the house imports 560 kWh and exports 7,700.

Energy studies

Numbers before you spend anything.

Half-hourly consumption, tariffs, solar yield and battery behaviour modelled together, so you know what a system would actually save before you commit. For homes it is a clear yes or no; for businesses it is a feasibility study you can put in front of a board.

  • Consumption analysis from smart-meter or half-hourly data
  • Solar, battery, EV and heat-pump load modelling
  • Tariff and export modelling, payback and sensitivity
  • Commercial battery storage feasibility

DNO applications

Getting the grid to say yes.

Every generator, battery and large load needs the network operator's agreement. We prepare and submit the applications, handle the technical questions and manage the process with SSEN and other DNOs until you have the connection offer in hand.

  • G98 and G99 applications for solar, batteries and export limits
  • New supply and supply upgrade applications, single to three-phase
  • Load assessments for EV charging, heat pumps and fit-outs
  • Liaison with the DNO through to connection offer and commissioning

How it works

Fixed fee, clear deliverables.

  1. 01

    Brief

A short call or site visit to understand what you need to decide and what data you already have.

  2. 02

    Fixed-fee proposal

A written scope with deliverables and a fixed price. No surprises and no obligation to install with us.

  3. 03

    The work

Survey, modelling, applications. We keep you updated through the same portal our install customers use.

  4. 04

    Deliverables

A report you can act on, the model or drawings, and the DNO paperwork. If you want us to build it too, the study rolls into the design.

Good to know

Consultancy questions.

Do I have to use you for the installation?

No. Consultancy is a stand-alone, fixed-fee service. Architects, developers, facilities managers and other installers use it, as do homeowners who want an independent view before choosing an installer.

What does it cost?

Each study is quoted after a short call, because the fee depends on the site and the data available. You will have a fixed price in writing before any work starts.

How long does a DNO application take?

We usually submit within a few working days of receiving the site details. The DNO then has a statutory window to respond, typically up to 45 working days for G99, and we chase it on your behalf.

Can you model a site we do not own yet?

Yes. Drone surveys and desk-based studies are often done before purchase or lease so the energy costs and generation potential are known up front.

Start a study

Tell us what you need to decide.

A site address and a sentence on the question you are trying to answer is enough. We'll come back with a scope and a fixed fee. Prefer to talk? Call 0330 320 1500.

Discuss a consultancy project

Tell us a little about the property and we'll come back within one working day.
