Ground-Mounted Solar and Tesla Powerwalls for a Large Rural Property

The homeowner has lived at his rural property for sixteen years. Over time, additions to the house led to a significant increase in electricity consumption, reaching approximately 24,000 kWh annually. With rising energy costs, he sought a sustainable and cost-effective solution to manage his electricity bills.

Introduced to Vanadium by a friend, the homeowner decided to invest in a comprehensive renewable energy system. Vanadium designed and installed around 40 ground-mounted solar panels in a south-facing area, cleverly concealed by hedging to maintain the property's aesthetic. The system also includes three Tesla Powerwall batteries: two for the main house and one dedicated to the pool, which is heated by an air source heat pump, and a separate cottage.

The new setup has transformed the property's energy management. By leveraging a favourable EON tariff, the homeowner can charge the Tesla Powerwalls at a low rate of 6.7p per unit overnight. During the day, the property runs on stored battery power or direct solar generation. Any excess solar energy is exported back to the grid at approximately 16p per kilowatt, leading to significant savings and, for the first time ever, a payment from the energy company. The homeowner praised Vanadium for making a complex technical project straightforward and for the efficient, non-invasive design of the solar array.
